Kishor’s New Mission: Can a Political Strategist Revive the NCP?

"Prashant ji is a friend and like a brother," Parth Pawar tweeted on May 19, 2026. The comment was more than a polite nod; it was a signal that the Nationalist Congress Party may be courting a veteran strategist after a series of electoral misfires. But here’s the kicker: Kishor, the architect behind Modi’s 2014 victory and a recruiter for basement set‑ups across India, is now eyeing Maharashtra. It’s a fresh assignment, and the stakes are high.

Truth is, Kishor’s résumé reads like a political obituary for successful campaigns. He’s pulled winning slogans out of crisis, stirred mobilisations for Arvind Kejriwal, helped Mamata Banerjee stay on top and even had a stint with the Congress in Uttar Pradesh. The same skills that positioned him as a party savior in Bihar may build a crash‑recovery plan for the NCP, which has seen its share of losses since Sunetra Pawar took over. The three‑hour meeting on Monday—between Sunetra, MP Parth Pawar and Kishor—hinted at a big redesign, but the details remained under wraps. Still, speculations are already circling, with some insiders wary of the changes.

Meanwhile, the MHP’s electorate watches closely, because NCP’s identity has always been a balancing act – a middle‑ground party that can swing both ways. If Kishor slides in, will that tilt the balance toward a more radical, party‑driven agenda? Or could it simply be a slick gimmick, a shiny facehoops that fail to address deeper structural problems? Satya or not, the party’s grassroots ranks could fracture if a top strategist is perceived as an outsider. The internal unease is already documented, especially among loyalists of Naresh Arora, the former strategist now out of the picture.

Still, the move speaks to a larger trend: Mumbai’s political economy is hungry for a winner, a brand, an image. Kishor’s tools give an edge, but they also come with a baggage of expensive overnight strategies. In a rapidly changing political climate, a former advisor turned candidate or vice‑president could tilt electoral calculus at the cost of alienating regular voters. Also, budgetary constraints will surface once the campaign hits the ground. Will the NCP afford the kind of high‑profile blitz it's dreaming of?

And yet, the decision could shift Maharashtra’s power dynamics in 2026 and beyond. If Kishor’s influence is as predicted, he could pair Sunetra Pawar’s leadership with an angle that appeals to women, youth and coastal voters. The question now is whether that partnership will be sufficient to win a frustrated electorate that complains of unmet promises.

Or will it be a costly detour that lures the party into another election with empty seats?
